2016 in ads

After saying goodbye to a long and eventful year, it’s time to go through the most memorable campaigns of 2016, and embrace the nostalgic spirit.

The best marketing campaigns were experimental - without disregarding consumer insights.

Seize the Virgin Holidays
Live video has become a trend in the digital world in 2016, and Virgin Holidays found the best way to use it.
Their video shows off all the possibilities in the destinations serviced by them through the eyes of travellers.

Rule Yourself with Under Armour
Under Armour’s successful campaign presents the training Michael Phelps and highlights the hard work and determination needed to be successful in sports. Pssst, by the way - buy Under Armour garments.

Live at Van Gogh’s with Airbnb
A visually breathtaking ad-experince was produced for a collaboration between Airbnb and The Art Institute of Chicago. The ad agency working on the campaign recreated Van Gogh’s famous bedroom and made it available for rent for everyone. The project went viral in over a hundred countries and received immense media coverage.

Wes Anderson’s H&M train of awesomeness
Wes Anderson directed a sweet Christmas video for H&M, echoing the style of his film, The Darjeeling Limited. The ad features Adrian Brody, the movie’s leading actor. Product placement is completely lacking, the company went on with the content marketing wave, thus the video focuses mainly on beautiful visuals and a heartwarming Christmas story.

You won’t skip these Skippable Ads
Hotels.com came up with a funny and loveable character, Captain Obvious to speak about the company’s benefits. The ad plays with the ‘Skip Ad’ button found on YouTube videos. When you hit the button on this ad, the same video is played, but every character in the video is skipping.
This video demonstrates the concept by flicking between the two versions of the ad:
